Moldova

Moldova is a former-Soviet country located between Romania and Ukraine in Eastern Europe. A great number of people in Moldova live in poverty and many have never heard the good news of Jesus Christ.

Since 2004, Crossings has partnered with two Christian camps in Moldova to sponsor students for a week of camp. At camp, the students are presented with the Gospel--many hearing it for the first time.

Over the last few summers hundreds of children have come to know Christ throug their experience at camp.

Only $15

While camp in the United States can cost a few hundred dollars, children in Moldova can experience a similar environment for only $15. That is the cost for one student to attend Camp Hope in Moldova for an entire week. It provides enough for food, housing, activities, and teachers so that every student will be able to be fed, enjoy all the fun of camp, and hear the Gospel.

The camps in Moldova are very similar to a Crossings Camp. There are skits and music at a daily Celebration time. The students compete in various activities and what we might call fellowships. There is a daily time of Bible Study and small group interaction. Every night there is a worship experience. There is even a snack shack for kids to enjoy their favoritre camp treats.

At the end of the week the Gospel is presented to the entire camp. In Moldova, with few churches, many first time campers have never heard the story of Jesus. Amazingly, on average 2 out of every 3 who come to camp for the first time leave having accepted Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

All this and more happens for only $15 per child.

Catching the Vision

180+ Children to Camp Hope, Moldova

Two Crossings churches are working ahead to raise money for this summer’s missions offering.  Magna View Baptist Church near Morristown, Tennessee, and Youngers Creek Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, are both attending Cedarmore this summer and have caught the vision for sponsoring children to attend Camp Hope in Moldova.  Just $15 sends one child to camp to hear the gospel, maybe for the first time.

Interview with Student Pastor Kevin White of Youngers Creek:

What was it that got your church and  students interested in raising money for Moldova?
“I have taken students (both children and youth) to Cedarmore for many years.  In the hustle of getting everyone ready to go, I always forgot to let the kids in on the mission fund raiser that is held at camp each year.  Last year as I watched our students truly giving from their hearts on what was left over from the week of camp. I thought to myself, ‘We can do better than this if we could hold our own fund raiser at the church.’  So on the last day of camp last summer, the media team loaded my flash drive with promo videos that would sit on my PC until our spring chili cook-off.”

How did you guys prepare for the fund raiser?
“We began promoting the event months before by word of mouth and media
presentations during youth worship.  Three weeks out we began announcing it via skits and reports from the students during our Sunday morning worship.
During this time we posted sign-up sheets to help people commit to preparing the chili and desserts.  And, of course, prayer.  All work is for nothing if we don’t pray for God’s blessings.”

What exactly did your group do for a fund raiser? How much money did you raise and how many students will that send to camp in Moldova?
“Our fund raiser was one that would include everybody in the church.  For the men we held a chili cook-off with official judges and trophies (I humbly accepted 9th out of 10), and for the women and anyone not interested in making chili, we had a dessert auction.  Just to make sure we didn’t miss anyone who might not have won at the auction, we passed a couple of baskets through the crowd to give if they wished.  The actual total is still unknown right now because some are still giving and the students and myself haven’t added our offering yet, but as of the end of the fund raising event we pulled $1365, enough for 91 people to go to camp!  By the time we get to camp we will have enough for at least 100 students to be apart of ‘Camp Hope’ in Moldova.”

What are some of the positive outcomes for your church and student group that you have seen from this event?
“Unity is the greatest thing that
happened for our church.  We were able to see people of all ages pulling together to serve people we don’t even know.”

Why is it important to you to teach your students about missions and how they can get involved?
“It is our number one priority as
Christians to help others have the
opportunity to hear the Gospel and have the opportunity to accept or reject Him.  If this isn’t taught to the future generations, it will be forgotten and left undone.  Ultimately, people will spend their
eternity in Hell if we don’t obey Jesus’ call for our lives.”

Why and in what ways would you encourage other churches to get involved in raising money before camp for missions?
“I would encourage other churches to make plans this summer for an event next spring to raise money for this cause.  Because not only does it help others go to camp and hear about Jesus; it also promotes hands-on experience and
interest in carrying out our responsibility of the Great Commission - not just for the students but for the entire church family.  If your church can’t raise as much as we were blessed to give, that’s okay.  Any amount will make a difference to the eternity of someone we won’t meet until we get to Heaven, and when we can unite our church families for a great cause like this, we CAN make a HUGE difference for the Kingdom.”

Interview with Charles Mills of Magna View Baptist Church:

What was it that got your church and students interested in raising money for Moldova?
“Crossings has impressed me with its world vision and vision for missions.  I want to partner with guys like this.  Every year, we have kids bring extra money to camp.  We actually send more kids to
camp in Moldova than we bring to camp each year.  I thought, ‘The kids already own this idea.  How can we get the church to own this as well?’  We prayed and IT HAPPENED.  We showed the
Moldova promo in the services leading up to the event, and our pastor tied it into the sermon.”

What exactly did your group do for a fund raiser?  How much money did you raise and how many students will that send to camp in Moldova?
“We had a great night of FOOD, FUN AND FELLOWSHIP. We average about 50 on Sunday nights, but on this night we had around 100.  We raised $1200, and at $15 a kid, that’s 80 kids to camp in Moldova.”

What are some of the positive outcomes for your church group that you have seen from this event?
We prayed people would come and be obedient to what god would have them give.  It was the best church fellowship we have had in a long time...a blessed night in every way.”
