How Can We Achieve Life-Changing Relationships in Just a Week of Camp? 1 | follow the model of Christ There are numerous examples where Jesus had only a short time with those He ministered to, but because of his intentional focus, each person felt individually loved and cared for – and compelled to believe. 2 | maintain a controlled environment There is something (special) about retreating – removing ourselves from our everyday routine and the distractions that demand our attention – that helps us hear and see more clearly. Each Crossings campus is based in a natural setting to offer a secure and peaceful environment, enhancing one’s ability to focus on Christ. 3 | build intentional facilities Because we are wholeheartedly committed to a long-term pursuit of relationships, we are concentrating our efforts on creating quality facilities that will be conducive to small group interaction. 4 | commit to intentional staffing We entail a rigorous interview process for all of our summer staff to ensure that we hire spiritually grounded young adults who have a passion for reaching students. Once at camp, their focus is on building intentional relationships with each camper. Because of this, we are committed to maintaining our 1:8 staff to camper ratio. 5 | connect with local churches We realize that we cannot go home with each camper to help them on a daily basis. This makes the role of the church adult chaperone of utmost importance. We require a 1:5 chaperone to camper ratio and work our camp schedule to maximize the time chaperones have with their students. Adults involved with youth on a regular basis are the avenue by which mentoring and accountability can be achieved after camp. As seen through Jesus, the ripple affects are amazing – even eternal – when we take the time to know someone’s name. Check out this amazing testimony of how a week of intentional relationships sent ripple effects through a community. |
