Seeking Opportunities Overseas
In a self-focused world, students need to be encouraged to see beyond their four walls.
Crossings is committed to connecting students with opportunities to share Christ with those who do not know Life and impact lives on an individual basis. Every summer at Crossings specific overseas ministries are selected as our missions focus.
History of Crossings Missions
Between 2001 and 2003, partnerships were developed with the Philippines’s Project Mercy and Trinidad’s Salvador Mission Camp. Campers at Crossings were encouraged to help financially support the projects at these international locations.
For the mission emphasis in 2004, we desired an opportunity to not only connect campers with a distant mission opportunity, but to connect them personally with the individual lives they were impacting. Our partnership with student camps in the small western-European country of Moldova proved to be just that opportunity.
Each summer in several locations throughout Moldova, summer student camps are operated with some of the same elements as Crossings – worship, Bible study, and recreation. Over 50 percent of campers at these Moldovan camps were unchurched, presenting a powerful Kingdom opportunity. The calculations offered that only $15 would fund a Moldovan student’s camp experience. Giving $15 became a tangible way for our American Crossings students to know that their funds were going toward impacting lives directly, creating an opportunity to reach beyond their borders to help relate people to God.
Current Missions
Overseas missions are a continuing priority as we seek out new opportunities as God leads. Doors have opened for us to begin sponsoring campers at a Christian camp in the Ukraine, similar to those in Moldova.
We are also investing in opportunities for students to not only financially support individual international students but to physically go and meet needs. Our hearts have been turned to the great needs in Africa, specifically the increasing number of orphans in countries like Zambia.
How Can I Get Involved?
Future opportunities will arise for:
- Groups to travel to Africa to minister to orphans in a camp setting
- Church groups or individuals to “adopt” orphans by supporting them through prayer and finances.
- Individuals to formally adopt a child, bringing them to the States.
